Water Resistance Guide

Understanding Water Resistance in Watches

When buying a new timepiece, one of the most commonly misunderstood terms is water resistance. Many customers assume that a water-resistant watch is waterproof — but this is not the case.

Each watch's water resistance rating provides a helpful guide on how much moisture exposure it can withstand — but it doesn’t mean you should take it swimming unless explicitly stated.

Below is a general guide to help you understand what different water resistance ratings actually mean and how to care for your watch properly.

Non Water Resistant

If the case (back) of your watch is not inscribed with 'Water Resistant' or 'Showerproof', your watch is not water resistant and therefore water may damage the movement, so we strongly recommend avoiding getting your timepiece wet.

⚠️ Care Tips for Water-Resistant Watches

  • Never operate the crown or pushers while the watch is wet or underwater unless it’s specifically designed for it.

  • Avoid exposure to hot water, saunas, and steam — even for watches rated to 100m or more.

  • If your watch is exposed to salt water or chlorine, rinse it in fresh water and dry thoroughly.

  • Ensure screw-down crowns are secured tightly before any contact with water.
